Nooma Is Here

We can get anything we want, from anywhere in the world, whenever we want it. Any information -- products, movies, music, TV, games, day or night. With a single click. That’s just how it is. Still, our lives aren’t different. Our lives aren’t any different than all the generations before us. Our time is. We want spiritual direction, but it has to be real for us and available when we need it. We want a new format for getting Christian perspectives. NOOMA is the new format. It’s a series of short films featuring the teachings of Rob Bell. Each NOOMA focuses on a different issue with relevance for us. Starting on June 19th, we began a new series at youth on Sunday Nights discussing the a variety of topics. Please join us for this new perspective on our faith and our ever growing relationship with our savior. For more information on NOOMA visit www.nooma.com.

Ultimate Frisbee

Each Wednesday (regardless of what you may have read in the church calendar) is Ultimate Frisbee Night. You see, we had all this other stuff planned, then this turned out to be a lot of fun; and well, we know a good thing when we see it. So… here how Ultimate Frisbee Night works: Meet at Casa De Shippey at 6:30 for a specially prepared meal by Casa De Shippey's top chefs, then once the food has settled you'll be whisked away to the lovely and scenic Lakebottom Park Ultimate Frisbee complex (the field by the volleyball court, that is). Then at 9:00 have your parents pick you up at the field. It’s simple enough, yes? Ultimately this is alot of fun (Pun on Loan from Matt Miller Enterprises).

Ultimate in Ten Simple Rules

1. The Field -- A rectangular shape with endzones at each end. A regulation field is 70 yards by 40 yards, with endzones 25 yards deep.

2. Initiate Play -- Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their respective endzone line. The defense throws ("pulls") the disc to the offense. A regulation game has seven players per team.

3. Scoring -- Each time the offense completes a pass in the defense's endzone, the offense scores a point. Play is initiated after each score.

4. Movement of the Disc -- The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not run with the disc. The person with the disc ("thrower") has ten seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower ("marker") counts out the stall count.

5. Change of possession -- When a pass in not completed (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception), the defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense.

6. Substitutions -- Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score and during an injury timeout.

7. Non-contact -- No physical contact is allowed between players. Picks and screens are also prohibited. A foul occurs when contact is made.

8. Fouls -- When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs. When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone.

9. Self-Refereeing -- Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes.

10. Spirit of the Game -- Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.

Have you tried Sunday School lately?

If not, isn't it about time? I am pleased to announce that the Senior High Sunday School Class, led by my lovely and talented wife and located in the Official Meeting Room for All Your Senior High Youth Lesson Needs, affectionately named "The Pierce Chapel Youth Room for Senior Studies and Advancement" (I like Long Names and run-on sentences, it would seem), is embarking upon and A new study based on the book 'Captivating.' Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn more about your relationship with Christ and how to apply it to your daily lives -- not to mention sometimes there are donuts, and donuts are good too!

"But what if I'm a Junior High?" you ask. Well then simply join Jennifer Stalnaker in the Pierce Chapel Youth Conservatory for Junior High Studies -- and yes I know a conservatory is either a music school or a greenhouse, but I like the sound of it. Each week Jennifer delivers a exciting and insightful look into how to live your life in a way that pleases Christ.

Don't miss out on these opportunities to learn more about your relationship with Christ and how to apply it to your daily lives. Not to mention sometimes there are donuts, and donuts are good too! Try Sunday School! Who knows... you may like it!
